The "Puerto De Deportivo De Salobreña" is now to go ahead
This will be without doubt the most exciting development on the Costa Tropical for many years. There are to be 316 berths for pleasure craft, both shallow and deep draft, 444 apartments of various configurations, 10,400 square metres of retail space, 14,000 square metres of recreational area and a sugar factory museum which will be the center piece of the entire development.
The "Salobrena Yacht Marina" will become the principal yachting venue for the Costa Tropical and a welcome refuge for vessels passing along the coast between Gibraltar and Almeria. Currently the Marinas of Punta de la Mona with 227 berths and Motril with only 146 berths (mainly private) are the key locations for visiting yachtsmen but neither offer the convenience of Salobreña.
The first work will be the construction of two new sea walls, the first (East) 110 metres in length and the second (West) 550 metres in length.
Interest has been shown in the Yacht Harbour by sailing enthusiasts locally in Motril, Salobreña and Almunecar as well as those farther afield in Madrid, Seville and Granada - a welcome addition to the Costa Tropical, there is sure to be high demand for the berthing facilities.
The retail area to be constructed in the Marina is also raising interest from Yacht Chandlers, Marine suppliers, Yacht clothing retailers and of course many restauranters keen to offer a variety of gourmet foods.
The "Marina Effect" is already showing itself on property prices in the area with increased demand being shown in quality properties in the vicinity of the Western Hills, including "Monte Almendros" but in particular on the South side of the N340 in "Costa Aguilera" which is located close to the sea.
With the new road systems planned to coincide with the opening of the Marina and the Motorway extension between the Granada road and Taramay now actively under construction Salobrena can look forward possitively to an exciting time ahead.
